MS06 Computational poromechanics

While analytical solutions to problems in poromechanics have been very useful and served many disciplines well, not all problems in poromechanics can be solved using analytical techniques alone. Computational methods such as finite element and boundary element methods have distinct advantage in solving problems when the problems are nonlinear in nature and the geometry is complex. This mini-symposium will highlight recent advances in computational methods used for solving poromechanics problems in civil, mechanical, biomedical, and petroleum engineering and other disciplines. The topics of interest will include new types of finite and boundary elements such as hybrid and non-conforming elements, meshless methods, efficient numerical implementation schemes and algorithms used for nonlinear material behavior such as elastoplasticity, and techniques to handle variety of loading conditions ranging from static to cyclic to dynamic to blast loading.
